Whale watching in Mirissa

Half a day💵 cash on the day

More than just a small fishing village on the south coast, Mirissa is the best place in the world to watch blue whales. In the vicinity of the island, 26 of the 80 species of whales known on Earth can be observed. Also in the ocean near the island you can find 5 species of dolphins. Sri Lanka's whales and dolphins are sea creatures that are a must-see while on holiday in this tropical country and will have an amazing experience. Migration of whales across the Indian Ocean near the island occurs all year round from the Arabian Sea to the Bay of Bengal, and some of them permanently live in the coastal waters of Sri Lanka. Boats leave the port early in the morning (around 06:30–07:00) and the boat trip lasts 4–5 hours. The captain and crew of the ship are searching for marine life without an echo sounder, so getting close to this animal depends on luck. You can see whales in the distance and even very close. Water and light snacks are provided during the walk. We recommend bringing anti-sickness medication with you as the walk takes place in the open ocean.
