Just a short drive from Ahungalla is the famous Kosgoda Great Sea Turtle Nursery, which has been protecting turtles along the southern coast of Sri Lanka for decades. Here you can see rescued turtles up close, learn about the life cycle of these ancient seafarers, and understand how conservation centers protect the eggs and safely release hatchlings into the ocean. This short, uncomplicated and truly heartwarming journey is ideal for both children and adults - and can easily be combined with a river boat safari, a visit to Bentota, Hikkaduwa or Galle Fort for a longer trip. If you wish, you can release the chicks (depending on the season and age of the turtles)
